A super popular way to look up domain names is 'whois'. There is also an advanced version of 'whois' called 'coolwhois'. This version allows you to look up registration information for domains.

If you want to find out the ownership information for a domain name, you want to use a tool called WHOIS. This is available at many different places but the place I've always used is the company I register my domain names with. They are called FYNE Domains and you go to www.fyne.com/whois. Enter the domain name and it'll show you the registration information for the domain.

If you simply want to see if a domain is available, on FYNE Domains' main web page you can use their Domain Search tool to see if the domain can be registered and how much it would cost. See the related link for further information.
