you can gain strength by doing manual labor around your house and yard. i bought my home in 1971 and spend a lot of time on weekends making gardens putting in sprinkler systems making patios and such. you will be surprised how much strength you will gain just by doing these simple chores and more. every time you bendover or kneel to pull weeds you are developing stomach muscles.walking your dog at a brisk pace helps your lungsand leg muscles. basically anything you do on a weekend or after work besides sitting on the couch with a bag of chips and a bottle of beer is helpful in gaining strength
