It sounds like this question was prompted by something, but regarding the ability to remain awake for 30 days, it's just a matter of practice. For example, Tyler Shields was a recent popular figure who claimed to stay awake for 40 days back in October. Prior to attempting this he was only sleeping perhaps once or twice every week. He stated that the first 25 days weren't that difficult because of this.
Not sleeping for long-periods of time can have long-term effects, though and even the Guinness Book of World Records no longer recognizes it. Peter Tripp back in 1959 stayed awake for 201 hours and entered a state of psychosis during the time and had psychological long-term effects. WebMD states that some long-term effects of chronic sleep deprivation can include:
- High blood pressure
- Heart attack
- Heart failure
- Stroke
- Obesity
- Psychiatric problems, including depression and other mood disorders
- Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD)
- Mental impairment
- Fetal and childhood growth retardation
- Injury from accidents
- Disruption of bed partner's sleep quality
- Poor quality of life
Is it possible? Yes. It is recommended? Absolutely not.
