usually, due to friction with sand ( in desert ), water ( in rivers ) and ice ( usually in mountains) that causes glaciers..thats the shape of them.

if you mean the types of rocks..for millions of years ago, rocks as we know them where buried under layers of sand and with lots of different levels of heat and pressure, new types of rocks are formed
