by buying energy efficient light bulbs and riding bikes not cars and recycling plastic bottles to keep from using oil to make them i hope you know water bottles are made from oil and so are plastic bags so be careful and recycle paper and other things like cans to save th earth :)

∙ 10y agoIt is beyond our ability to stop; we WILL face the problem of learning to deal with it. It would take the effort of everyone all over the planet, and the wanton waste of fossil fuels would have to stop. The numbers of giant businesses, governments and unions connected with all the carbon wasting industries are so huge that there is no way that anything can be done realistically. Add to that the fact that it is pure greed that fuels all the owners/managers of the above businesses and industries, and you can see that our fate is sealed, short of out and out total, world wide revolt. The result of that could be worse than the result of our current waste.
We will go through some intense struggles, probably including the starvation of millions or billions of people. The planet will not be able to sustain its current population and its current growth. We will have to face the migrations of people from coastal areas and from many island nations that will lose land to the rising seas. Climates will change radically, and food production will pose serious challenges.

The difficulty is that there is simply not the political will to address the problem, and in some areas this may not exist until disaster is upon us. A practical issue is that there is nothing we can do to stop immediately our contribution to greenhouse gas emissions. Our lifestyle simply requires the use of electricity, which is largely produced by burning coal and oil. Our lifestyle also requires quick and convenient transportation, which mainly requires us to use oil. So we need to to be more frugal, getting more consumer benefit out each unit of electricity. We also need to introduce better ways to produce electricity and to move around without heavy reliance on fossil fuels. And even then, we can not replace billions of dollars worth of infrastructure overnight. But the sooner we begin to plan and address these issues, the sooner we can move down that road.
