Solar is far from a green source of power as it provides less power then it consumed in it's creation. They are high in the feel good department. They certainly have uses in areas where power is not available, but should not be installed on homes that wish to be green. They have an overall negative impact on our environment.
That is not to say that the light from the sun will not light your home. A home with good windows will light a home all day long. Power from the sun for heating, water, or energy is not practical. Ask several people, like me, that have tried. The first few years you really work at it then realize it never pays for itself and has a negative impact on the environment because the energy it takes to build and matain the system is greaterthen what you ever get out of it.
