I find that sometimes to make clothes look better, you need to focus on everything but what you're wearing. For example, if you can make your hair, make-up and accessories look good, they'll make the outfit look ten times better.
It's also important to keep up-to-date with everything, I hate to sound like an advertisement but Topshop is great for people who want to be stylish. I made an account with them and you get monthly emails about the latest fashions and generally you can't go wrong when you buy something from there!
