Marijuana affects your brain and mental state. If you use too much of it, you basically stop caring about anything but getting more and more of it, or getting stronger drugs to replace it. This affects your social life by making you stop hanging out with friends unless they're also doing drugs, which is not really being social, just doing drugs together.
