Water pollution can affect the lives of both humans and animal species. For species, it can contaminate their habitat, even poisoning them if consumed in too great a concentration, which in turn leads to affecting humans. When small fish consume toxins in the water, a snowball effect occurs, wherein larger fish constantly consume smaller fish (which in turn builds up the concentration of toxins), and thus, eventually finding its way into our stomachs.

On a more aesthetic note, water pollution can lead to ugly scenery: Dirty lakes, ponds, rivers, etc.
