There is a way to get back to the default Windows XP Vista themes. You do this by opening Start, and starting Control Panel. You then click on Personalization, select Theme, and then select "Windows Classic".
If you are using Windows 10, you should go to the settings (press the Windows key, type 'settings' and press enter). Click on 'personalization'. There, you should see your old background. Click on it. If you don't see your old background, you can choose a saved image by clicking 'browse', and then selecting an image. If it was the background your pc/laptop came with, click on 'themes'. Then, you should see the one your pc/laptop came with. Click on it and press 'use custom theme'.
