palm tree don't have ring
One year's growth is comprised of both a light and a dark ring. These rings can either be counted by cutting down the tree and counting across the radius, or by using an instrument called an increment borer to remove a small rod of material. An increment borer is normally used to age live trees and care must be taken to get a core exactly along a radius.
The reason this works is because trees that grow outside of the tropics have growth rings, which usually coincide with the period of the year when yearly growth begins and ends. During the early part of the growing season, large diameter cells for transport are placed, which appear as a light colored ring (early wood). When soil moisture begins to limit productivity, smaller diameter cells are placed and appear as a darker ring (late wood). When moisture and/or temperature create unsatisfactory growing conditions, growth will stop. Usually this occurs in the fall, but trees in some desert environments will start and stop growth several times throughout the year to take advantage of sporadic precipitation events.
The only way is to take a core from the main stem and count the rings but this should be avoided if not absolutely necessary.
you can tell by how fat and how tall the tree trunck is
thanx for reading!!
you count the number of rings or circles it as if the tree is cut
if u cut a tree you will find that there are rings you must then count how many rings there are to calculate its age but dont get me wrong and cut a random tree to o this
bender!
Well if you don't want to harm the tree (cut i down) then you should drill a hole in the center of the tree and the piece that you drill should have all the rings. then you should be able to successfully count the age of a tree without killing the actual tree.
circles in the tree
Cut the tree down and see how many rings are inside and whatever the number is, that's how old the tree is.
River :)
Two methods: - radiocarbon dating - dendrochronology

They are called "rings". Each "ring" indicates a seasons growth. So by counting the rings the age of the tree is apparent.
