How can you determine the sex of a bullfrog?

There are three easy signs you can look for:

• Throat: Females have pale, unmarked throats. Male throats are darker, sometimes with a rectangular dark patch in the center.
  
• Size: Females are generally larger than males. If it is larger than four inches (nose to tail, excluding legs), it is most likely female.
• Voice: Females don't call. If it makes noise, it's most likely a male.
  

Additionally, some other signs, though these are more subjective:

• Forearms: Males will have nuptual pads on their forearms if they are ready for breeding. Additionally, male forearms may appear thicker.
  
• Girth: Females are typically fatter.
• Skin: Males have typically less bumpy skin.

if the are ADULTS the male will croak if you lightly push on his back and the males have bigger thumbs

You can sometimes tell by the round ear drum on the side of the frog's head. If it is larger or the same size as the eye than it may be a male. If it is smaller, female. Males may croak too.
