It's really a personal preference to become an organ donor. You can always ask a person if they are and if they're not, persuade them other wise ... but it may come off as strange. You can also make start a campaign ad stating how many lives are saved by donors and how you should become one to help someone in need. Other than that, making people do things is frowned upon.

Encouraging people to donate blood can be done by meetings, seminars, leaflets highlighting the importance of blood donation. There is always scarcity of blood in Blood Banks specially during summer seasons when the demand accelerates further. We can make people understand the simple thing that it takes l5 days to form the blood in our body, to compensate the blood donated by the donor. Further, the blood donated by the donor can save a precious life irrespective of caste, creed and religion. By this way, we are not only saving precious human life, but also doing a noble job for the society as a whole.

Information and education are the best tools available to maintain a safe and adequate blood supply. Most potential donors, when asked why they have never been a volunteer blood donor, respond that they were never asked. All blood collection facilities are not-for-profit, with limited resources for public awareness campaigns. The best way to increase collections is with the help of current donors in getting the word out to the public. Additionally, those who may not be eligible can be extremely helpful in recruiting donors. One donor provides blood components for up to 3 recipients....asking ten people to donate provides many more opportunities to help.

What is a kidney or heart donor?

A donor is somebody who gives one or more of their organs to somebody who has died. As we have two kidneys it is possible to donate one of them while you are still alive. But only a dead person can donate their heart. The best sources of hearts are people who have died in accidents like car crashes as the heart will probably be in very good condition.

Why shouldn't all religious people carry donor cards?

In general, both religious and non-religious people simply forget or don't even think about the benefits of organ donation. But I'm fairly certain that you're looking for a "religious" explanation and as such, here it is. The following is the position of the Roman Catholic Church: Pope John Paul II in 1991, stated to a Group on Organ Transplants: "Furthermore, a person can only donate that of which he can deprive himself without serious danger or harm to his own life or personal identity, and for a just and proportionate reason. It is obvious that vital organs can only be donated after death". I cannot speak on behalf of all Roman Catholics but to simply state that the Vatican does not prohibit a Roman Catholic from donating his/her organs after death has been duly confirmed. I, for one, thank you for having raised this important issue and will definitely consent to my organs being donated to save one or more lives. Several Canadian provinces have driving permits that allow a person to state whether he/she wishes to donate his/her organs. I would encourage people of other faiths to contribute to my answer.
