Ask your parents, aunts or uncles, or cousins. If you do not have such relatives to ask, then you will have to use the available records. Find your parent's birth certificates. These documents usually give the names of their parents.

If you are adopted and do not know who your biological parents are, or one of your parents was, then you should contact one of the many organizations that help adopted childred in this kind of search.

First ask your parents, aunts and uncles, and your cousins.

Then look in the archives serving the area where they lives to find records of the deaths, marriages and births. This and other information may also be available on-line, usually through services that charge a fee to defray the cost of digitizing the information.

The only way to find out who your great great great great grandfather was is to work backwards in the available records, finding out who the father of your grand father was, then the father of your great grandfather, then the father of your great great grandfather, and so forth until you get to the father of your great great great grandfather
