if you are feeding him / her human food, stop. that can cause bad breath for dogs. theres this dog treat that they sell all around petsmart, petco, etc called 'greenies' those are suppose to freshen their breath.

There are also raw meaty bones (such as chicken wings for small dogs, or lamb beef ribs for large dogs) and even natural chews made out of shed stag antlers (called Stagbars) that you can give your dog to chew on that clean your dogs teeth and give them fresh breath. The chewing action dislodges plaque and also stimulates the dog mentally.
