To adopt a rare animal (ex: black sheep), you must see one that is up for adoption on your HOME page of Facebook in the News Feed. You can also frequently visit your farmville friends' profiles.
The message will say: "Someone found a lonely (Black Sheep) on their farm. Oh no! ... was farming when a lonely (Black Sheep) wandered onto their farm in FarmVille. This poor (sheep) was abandoned because she's a bit different from other (sheep). She feels very sad and needs a new home.".
*** Then click on ADOPT THIS (black sheep etc).
This adoption message must first be posted by one of your friends who plays farmville, who happens to at rarely and randomly be chosen by the Farmville game system to be someone who puts a lost animal up for adoption. The more friends you have that play farmville, the better your chances of seeing the adoption in your news feed.
This method applies for the Black Sheep, Brown Cow, and the Ugly Duckling.
As of the most recent Farmville Beta update (Sept 2009), you can now adopt non-rare animals as well (like regular cows). This will make rare animals, more rare to find. thx i didnt know that
