The only point of having the Island is so you can complete your fish list. Because there are some types of fish you can only catch on that island. Other than that it's just something to spend money on if you're ridiculously rich.
In Harvest Moon: Magical Melody if you sell 50 Cabbages you get to get strawberry seeds which are about 340Gs for a seed bag and they sell for about 400Gs each, which if you sell a lot like I did, You will have the rich note by the end of your first spring if you did it right. But if you are playing some other Harvest Moon you get Strawberries in different ways.

Asside from gameshark, there are no real get rich quick schemes. The best I could advise is take the basket to the mine after obtaining all the powerberries and mine yourself silly sense time doesn't pass inside.
