Doctors who want to treat animals require different training than other people. There are vet schools that teach people how to work on animals and then make a career of it. Vet schools can be very hard to get into because of the amount of detail that the physicians must pay attention to. Veterinarians not only have to learn all about the anatomy of the human body because they are receiving a doctorate degree, but they also need to learn about everything with the animal body. This does not just include cats and dogs. They need to learn about most every animal that people can own as a pet. The vet will see any animal that people could bring in, so they need to know how to treat them. The course work for vet school needs to begin in high school. If someone knows that they want to be a vet, they should take all of the science classes they can take in high school like anatomy, biology, and physiology. These courses would be a good jump start on what they would learn in school. If the student enjoys science, then they would probably do well in vet school. One downfall to vet schools is that there are not many in the United States. One of the schools is in North Carolina and there are a few more located on the east coast. Students will have to search for vet schools and apply as soon as they possibly can if they want to be accepted to the school. They need to have excellent grades and show that they can excel in science courses as this is what vet training centers around. While in vet school, students will learn how to give an animal a well exam. They will learn what to look for when an animal is sick and the proper medications to give them so that they will get better. They will also learn how to do surgery on different animals. There are also times when the vet will have to put an animal to sleep, which will also be covered in classes. If students do not have a compassion for animals, they should re-think the idea of going to vet school.
