Windows XP has a program compatibility wizard. You can find it by going to start, all programs, accessories.The wizard will attempt to run older programs in XP, it does not always work however. Good luck. Or left click on the .exe or the shortcut. Under properties, you will see Compatibility.
For backward compatibility reasons with MS-DOS which uses Io.sys to load the built-in device drivers when a system is turned on or restarted.

drwatson32.log was the name of the drwatson log file used by Windows 98. This was a popular debugging program.
I was able to load and run Visio 4.0 on a Windows 7 PC. Just run the CDSETUP.EXE program from the CD. You'll need admin privileges to install. You'll also need to set Comparability mode to Windows 98. If you don't do this, the program will freeze at the splash screen. I'm in a domain environment where users do not have admin rights. I also needed to give Users full write access to the C:\program Files\Visio directory
The name of the dr Watson log file used by windows 97 was Sherlock. Dr. Watson was a debugging program for Windows 98.
The Hard Drive with Windows Vista installed on it would not work in Windows 98 unless you reformatted it using the FAT32 File System, thus erasing all data. Windows Vista uses the NTFS file system, which is not supported by Windows 98.
