I believe you mean a cable modem, not a dial up modem...
The modem is connected to your internet Service Provider, ISP.
The ISP has your account, which means they assign a user ID and password to either you or your modem. The modem ID and PW are found on the info underneath it. Don't change that.
Or the USER NAME and Password were given to you with the paperwork you got when you signed up with the ISP for Internet access. At some point you may have to fill out that info. They may give you an IP address or Router number, and you will need that if they do.
