Why doesn't my hamster like me?

Well, Once I had two hamsters in the same cage. They were doing fine until they started getting older. Now, both of them bite and are not very enjoyable. So it is not a good idea to put hamsters together. But, to answer your question, you do not even have to know if hamsters like each other.

Some hamsters are more timid than others but start slowly.

Put your hand into the cage and let your hamster get used to your smell. Try talking softly so he doesn't get freaked out with a loud booming voice and wait for him to come to you. Don't try to pick him up for now but keep doing this so he gets used to your hand going in and out of the cage without being scared.

Eventually you can hold small amounts of food and let him come to you and check it out. If you feel he is ready try and touch him a little, maybe a stroke of his back.

When he is fine with that you can try and pick him up. Try and pick him up in one smooth movement using your hand in a scooping motion and don't squeeze him too hard.

Hamsters are really curious so he will probably try and explore. Let him have a look around and I would let him do some travelling if he wants - just keep a close eye on him as they can shoot off. Maybe some food or treats when you are holding him will let him know that it's good to have you around.

Do this on a regular basis and for short periods of time to start off with so he learns that he will be put back into his home and no harm will come to him.

The key is to let him do things at his own pace and don't just grab at him. This whole process can take a few days or even a few weeks.

They get scared veary esaly so dont chase them around the cage to pick the up after you train them wait till they come to you so you dont scare them.then they will NOT like you!!

There are different ways to make your hamster like you.No.1:place your hand on the bottom of its cage,put some treats on your hand if you do not have any treats,food will be fine.No.2:Your hamster might be acting aggressivly because you do not spend enought ime with it.try sitting next to its cage and talking to it,you could read it a book or even sing to it softly!Try stroking your hamster and comforting it.No.3:make sure you give your hamster enough excercise.

Hamsters are not the most friendly animals. Dwarfs are usually more friendly than the more common Tibetan hamsters. With hamsters, you pretty much have to handle them often and show them you are not afraid of them.
