You dont! you cherish them forever! as former soldier I can tell you I think its disgraceful you would want to "dispose" of somthing that probobly was earned by your relatives, and was earned with blood sweat and tears!
Sometimes a museum will take medals off of your hands, and if not, go to the original grave of whoever was awarded the medals, and bury them just a little bit under the soil. Those are the most respectful ways to dispose of them.

You should wear them on the right side. The original recipients wear them on the left side, so family are supposed to wear them on the right side when they do in order to distinguish them from the service men and women. Be aware that some people feel it is inappropriate for anyone except the service person to wear the medals.
