You would be surprised how many different types of sand there are. I have personal experience living in a desert country and they need sand to make cement, and sand for the man made beaches. You see desert sand grains are to big for cement, too salty etc. so you just need the right sand.
Another view:
Desert sand is much too fine in most cases to use in cement and contains such other impurities as dust, salts and organic matter that makes it unsuitable for construction work. River sand is much more suitable for such purposes.
Sand is not difficult to sell in the desert. Normal desert sand is unsuitable for construction purposes so coarser, cleaner sand must be imported for making concrete. Desert sand is much too fine and contains a lot of dust, salts and other impurities that make it useless for construction.
Sand? Some would say sand. However, the person who gives that answer is a bit uneducated about the desert. Sand is not difficult to sell in the desert. You bring coffee into the desert and wait for people to come by, then sell it.
I would sell sand in lovely glass jars, marked "authentic desert sand" to tourists, as a memento of their visit to the desert. Even so, I don't think that business would be very brisk. It would be a minor sideline to my primary business, camel racing.
I'll go to the desert. Wait for the people to come by ang sell it.
No, but you might sell coffee to a person in the desert.
they make stuff and then sell it
In the desert itself, some people make a living in the mining industry. Along the coasts, fishermen ply their trade. In the cities you ave the normal work that one would find in any city or town - banking, retail, wholesale and a host of other occupations. Except for some very small operations near isolated aquifers, there is virtually no farming in the desert.
