Mostly if you see a difference in the plants growth quicker then usual, then that means its getting the right amount. But, if the soil around the plant is usually always damp your definitely over watering it. But if it's not getting enough water, you can tell by 1: your plants looks dried out. 2: your plants leaves or stem is ripping pr pulling itself apart. 3: Your plant is dangled over and dried out and turning brown and ripping, then not enough water sunlight or soil. You can also tell if your plants is dying or growing based on it's growth and or sprouting new leaves. Or, ripping and turning brown. Hope I helped.

A plant that hasn't had enough water may show signs such as wilting leaves, dry soil, or browning edges on the leaves. Additionally, the plant may appear droopy or lackluster compared to when it's adequately watered.

You can tell if your bird of paradise plant is underwatered by checking the soil moisture level. Stick your finger into the soil about an inch deep. If it feels dry, your plant likely needs more water. Additionally, look for wilting or yellowing leaves, which are signs of dehydration. Water your plant thoroughly if you suspect it is underwatered.

You can tell that plant cells are undergoing osmosis if they swell or shrink. When plant cells are placed in a hypertonic solution, they lose water and shrink. Conversely, when they are placed in a hypotonic solution, they gain water and swell. These changes in cell size indicate that osmosis is occurring.
