Sings of addiction are: craving the drug mentally and physically, becoming sick without the drug (withdrawal), obsessing about the drug, doing whatever it takes to obtain the drug. It is very easy to become addicted to just about any drug that makes you feel good. Your brain remembers that feelings and eventually needs it to feel "normal". Drug addiction can be very painful, very expensive, and fatal. http://www.drug-addiction.com
Some signs are someone always laying around, sweating, irritable, asking for a pain pill to you or family members, always complaining of body pain everyday like hinting around, refusing regular over the counter pain medication saying "oh that dont help",things coming up missing from your home, the person leaving and coming right back or staying gone for days at a time, different people calling their phones,so so many more signs. I am a recovering addict and feel free to email me anytime if you want to talk in private about addiction, getting help, and etc. trinakay33@insightbb.com thanks
Sadly, there aren't many ways to tell if someone is addicted to drugs.
But, if you already know that they are doing drugs, then how you can tell if they are addicted to drugs is if they are doing drugs all the time.
If they do drugs all the time, and act like they're insane when they don't have drugs, then they are addicted.
The best thing to do for them is tell them that the drugs are very bad for their body, and you love them and don't want to see anything bad happen to them. Tell them that they have to stop or the damage they are doing to their body will kill them. If that doesn't work, then get them some professional help.
The definition of the word "addiction" is hotly debated; but a decent loose guide might be whether you could take or leave a drug of choice that is right in front of you and retain your equanimity--still be content, in other words.
A person can be "addicted" to many different things; behaviors, alcohol, drugs, relationships, sex, etc. Typically, when a person has a compulsion, obsession, an inability to stop (without help) , remain stopped, or struggles to control the frequency and/or amount of a substance/behavior is when the word 'addiction' is used. When addicted to something, people often ignore adverse effects or negative consequences. Old interests are replaced by the addictive behavior, and new behaviors pop up that allow the user to continue using. These can include hiding consumption, having stashes, always making sure there is a supply, lying, stealing, cheating, sneaking, problems with the law, relationships, or work, and financial difficulties. If you find yourself having to compensate in order to use/behave in a certain way, there may be a problem. Taking risks, denial, obsession, and withdrawal are all signs of addiction. If one is using a substance or behavior in order to deal with general life or larger problems, they may need to reevaluate their relationship with the addiction.
Ask yourself these questions and answer honestly:
If you're getting a lot of "yes" answers, you might be addicted. Talk to your doctor about it.
If they experience withdrawl symptoms in the absence of the drug in question.
when you can not stop.
if you take too many durgs

Drug addicts may compel their friends either because they do not want to feel like they are addicted alone, and they want to get someone else addicted to not be alone, or simply just to get more business for their drug dealer, but it all surely does depend on the person that is addicted in the first place...i hope that helps..
Infants born to drug addicted mothers tend to be drug addicted themselves. Mothers should not become pregnant when they are actively using drugs.

Someone is considered addicted to drugs when they have a strong craving or compulsion to use drugs, experience withdrawal symptoms when not using drugs, continue to use drugs despite negative consequences, and have difficulty controlling or stopping their drug use. Addiction is a complex brain disorder that can have serious implications for a person's physical and mental health.
