Smell, taste, form, texture...place a bit on tin foil, gently heat the underside of the foil and if it melts into a dark tar which smells like chemicals and fish...its most likely heroin. If you aren't sure if someone's on heroin...look at their eyes. Most drugs dilate ('blow out') the pupils. Heroin constricts ('pins out') the pupils.

∙ 11y agoWell, there is no checklist with these types of things. That's the problem. If the person is close to you it will take some observation. One HUGE sign that someone is using strong opiates is pinned pupils. Their pupils will be very small even when not in the light.
Unfortunately I have spent time around people who were high and I noticed a certain "heroin" look in the muscles of the face. I think that it is a result of certain muscles becoming relaxed after a person gets high. It looks almost like a subtle frown, but once you know what I am talking about, it is not subtle at all. These two things are a dear give a way that a person is high.
Are your suspicions specifically that someone is using heroin or just that they are on opiates? Because these effects can also come from other opiate use including oxycodon, and other pills.
Also if a person is scratching or itching a lot (face and nose a lot, but also back and arms, anywhere really)
