Your screen will say Safe Mode in the corners, and your screen may look large and somewhat blurry. To get into safe mode, press and hold F8 while the computer is first starting, it should ask you what to do.
it will say Safe mode in the 4 corners of your screen, there will be no sound, the Windows theme will be "classic"
you will see "safe mode" in all four corners.
For windows the desktop will dispay "SAFE MODE" in all four corners.
No

You are probably thinking of Windows 7 Professional. Well, Windows 7 Professional has the same features as Home Premium, but also includes features like Remote Desktop, XP Mode, and Group Policy.
When a program cannot run in DOS mode it means it's a Windows file. Unless you get a specific program (you'll have to look into it) you can't use any Windows programs.
windows 7 i say is faster than windows xp but windows 8 is faster. In case windows 8 you have Desktop mode and metro mode, if you have purchased software perhaps you need to upgrade for compatibility reasons. you can also try some linux live cd to get some experience perhaps you will want to switch to it the thing is sometime drivers difficult to find and install depending hardware?
I'm not sure about MAC, but in Windows, right-click the iTunes icon (for windows 7, find iTunes in your start list or desktop to right-click it). Clock "properties" then "compatibility". Click on the check mark next to "Run this program with compatibility mode for:" and you should be good!
Change the compatibility mode of the program to Windows 98/Me
Compatibility mode
XP Mode only works on Windows 7 Professional, Windows 7 Ultimate, and Windows 7 Enterprise.
