Never use alcohol or peroxide like previously suggested here! Seek the advise of a professional piercer or go to your doctor immediately if you have reason to believe it is infected. I have been working as a piercer for better than 10 years and I have never suggested alcohol, peroxide, or any other astringent or antiseptic (those items are meant for immediate first aid only.
A doctor would give you antibiotics for an infection. If you could be a little more specific as to what is causing the infection such as a piercing gone wrong, a pimple that got overly infected or a cut, I'm sure you could get a better answer.
Don't take it out!!!! That will trap the infection making it harder to get rid of and possibly form an abscess. Keep the jewelery in and go to the doctors to get antibiotics.
If it's infected... DON'T TAKE IT OUT! If you take it out, it will only cause the infectious bacteria to stay in your body, and it won't get rid of it. Soak your piercing in a sea salt soak for five to ten minutes and clean it two to three times a day. Once the swelling/infection has passed, and you're not please with the piercing, you can take it out. But if it's infected, leave it in!
get rid of them.
Popping it.
Well you need to wash the piercing daily, this is what has caused your infection in the first place. Poor aftercare will lead to infections with any piercing. All piercings even healed piercings need to be washed daily when showering to ensure good piercing health. Diluted unscented liquid antibacterial soap lathered up and applied to the piercing and worked into the piercing by moving the jewellery, follow this by rinsing the piercing under warm running water (in the shower) daily will resolve 90% of piercing related infections.
First, get rid of the piercing. It's a foreign object AND an opening in the skin. Second, clean it as well as possible. Third, see your local doc for antibiotics. {E} DON'T Remove the piercing. It is keeping he hole open. If you remove the piercing you run the risk of the skin healing over the infected area causing an abscess. Clean it as best you can, and use a sea salt soak. Then go to your doctor for antibiotics. Good luck.
Get rid of it
First, check in with either your piercer or a doctor to be sure that it's infected. A lot of people misdiagnose an irritated piercing as infected. If it is infected, your doctor should prescribe an antibiotic to help clear up the infection. While its healing, keep cleaning it with a saline solution, and don't remove the jewelry or the infection could get trapped. If the swelling gets intense and the bar is too short, have a piercer switch it out with a longer sterilized bar. Good luck!
