Male turtles have longer claws, brightly colored eyes, narrower shells, longer tails, concave plastrons, and the cloaca is located farther down the tail.
Female turtles have short claws, not-as-brightly colored eyes, wider shells, short tails, flat or rounded tails, and the cloaca is tucked up under the shell at the top of the tail.

∙ 14y agoFirst, look at the belly. The belly of a female turtle is convex meaning it is rounder. The belly of a male is concave meaning it is a flat belly or it might even bend in a little.
The next thing you look at is the tail. the males tail is usually thicker than the females. In most cases the males tail is longer to.
Also, A full-grown female turtle is bigger than a full grown male turtle.
Another clue is the claws. the male has longer front claws than back claws. females have claws of the same length and some times have shorter front claws. trying to figure out if a turtle is male or female can be rather difficult and is easyer said than done. if you are still uncertain of your turtles sex (gender), take him/her to a pet store and they should be able to tell you.

Go to a vet instead of doing it yourself.
Boy turtles have a long tail, a rounder tail, and a concaved shell and long front claws so it can grip onto it's mate. And girl turtles have short tails flatter tails, and a flat underside to give more room for the eggs.
You can tell by the boy the boy has longer nail's in the front and the girls are shorter.
