when one of the substance is dissolved in other substance, the one which dissolves is called solute and the other is called solvent. usually the solute molecules are surrounded by the solvent molecules, and are not mechanically separable, there exist an intermolecular bond. and an energy equivalent to it is given out.

in this case it is called solution and not the mixture.
