There is an add-on for Firefox that is called Adbock Plus. If you add that to your browser, then many ads can be filtered out. It is configurable, so you can decide which ads to block.
Other add-ons that could be valuable are NoScript and FlashBlock. To install any of these, select "Add-ons" from either the Firefox or Tools drop down on the main Firefox menu (it could be in a different place, depending on what OS and browser version you are using). Once you find add-ons, then use the search area to search for any of these. Read about them and know what you can do with them before you install.

In Windows Vista, it's easy. Just click on the speaker icon on the taskbar and adjust the sound for Mozilla Firefox. On anything else I don't know...
it works on mine --Mine, too...you might have cookies or javascript turned off. If you use NoScript or Adblock, you have to disable them for myspace to work in Firefox.

You cannot turn off ads in Gmail. It is the main source of income for Gmail. If more ads appear, you can use ad-blocker for that.
Open an internet browser (Mozilla Firefox, Chrome, Safari, Opera), type www.twitter.com and you can log-off your twitter account there by clicking your user name and go to "sign off".
