Most cats raised with love and care are friendly and trusting. Some are shy and reclusive. Like humans, if a kitten or cat was abused, they can have difficulty trusting. If they feel unsafe in the living situations, cats can seem angry and mean---when they are really just annoyed or frightened. When HUMANS are properly trained in how to treat cats, the cats become less afraid and act out less.

Are neighbourhood cats welcoming to new cats in their territory or a threat?

It depends on the cat you have. Is your cat friendly or agressive? If friendly they should do well. Are their two unfixed male cats? They might fight! If you have a male and a female you might get kittens. I suggest you always spay or nueter your cats. The neighborhood cats temerments count too.

Are tortoiseshell cats friendly?

I have a tortoiseshell cat, and she is fairly friendly... well, she doesn't scratch me or bite me unless she is really freaked out, although she also tends not to like my younger sibling and her friends, but they're all really loud. I, however, can't speak for everyone, I'm sure there are some tortoiseshell cats that aren't friendly at all. 'Tortoiseshell' is just the color of their fur, I think there can be friendly and not so friendly tortoiseshell cats, but I know mine isn't mean.

Are norwegian elkhounds cat friendly?

They are a beautiful breed :) Whether they are cat friendly really depends on the dog and how its treated. And what experiences they've had with cats. If a dog has been attacked by a cat then mabye they think that cats arent so friendly therefore they might have a grudge against cats. But if the interaction between the dog and the cat is good and no cat scratching then the dog might become cat friendly. Its early puppy stages are important and socializing with cats within the first 6 months is essencial if the dog is living in a cat zone :)
