The distance between the Earth and the Sun at perihelion is 147,098,074 km

0.9832898912 AU or 91.4 milion miles).

Each planet is in an elliptical orbit that takes it closer and further from the Sun during its revolution. Perihelion is the name given to the point where the planet is closest. The longitude of perihelion, i.e. exactly where the planet is at perihelion, is one of the numbers that defines each orbit.

An orbit is defined by six numbers: the semimajor axis (average distance), the eccentricity (how far off-centre the Sun is), the inclination angle to the ecliptic, the longitude of perihelion (where the planet is closest to the Sun), the longitude of the ascending node (where it crosses the ecliptic going northwards) and the mean anomaly at the epoch (where it is on a defined date).

At Saturn's aphelion, it is about 10.1 AU from the Sun. Therefore, it would be anywhere between 9.1 and 11.1 AU from the Earth, depending on whether Earth is on the same side of the Sun as Saturn, or on the opposite side.

Mercury's perihelion, or the part of its orbit that is closest to the sun, is 28.6 million miles. This means that Mercury's perihelion is the closest of any planet in the solar system.

How close is Earth to the Sun at its closest approach?

We call the closest point of approach to the Sun "perihelion". "Peri-" from the Greek for near, and "helion" from the Greek "Helios" or "Sun".At perihelion, the Earth is at a distance of 147,098,074 kilometers or 91,402,506 miles.

What is Earth's angular momentum when it is at perihelion in its orbit?

The point at which Earth is closest to the the Sun is called perihelion. Even though Earth is close to the Sun then, the Northern hemisphere experiences winter then. This is because the Northern Hemisphere is tilted away from the Sun at perihelion.

How much money would you need to lay one dollar bills from the end of the sun to Pluto?

Oh, what a good question! A dollar bill is 152 milimetres in length and the distance from the Sun to Pluto varies between 4.4 billion kilometres a perihelion and 7.4 billion kilometres at aphelion. By my calculations that would be: Perihelion: $28,947,368,421,052.63 Aphelion: $48,684,210,526, 315.78

What does perihelion ocur?

When an object orbiting the Sun is at its closest distance to the Sun, it is said to be in perihelion.
