How come DVDs are round?

It's because of the way they are read. The disc spins whilst a stationary laser reads the information. If the disc were any shape other than round, the laser or disc would have to move in different directions in order to read the entire disc. This would be a complicated and expensive process for DVD player manufacturers.

dvds are supposed to be round...there is a thing in the DVD player to make the DVD play by spinning it. the fastest shape that can spin is a circle. with other shapes, the spinning is slower and the quality will get lesser. so, DVD's are round.
