How come in movies serial killers wrap dead people in plastic before they bury them?

In this case it's art imitating life. Real killers know that if they wrap the body in plastic it limits the transfer of evidence such as hairs, blood, saliva, dirt, leaves, paint, fabric fibers, ect. With advances in foresic science it has become harder for criminals to leave a scene devoid of minute pieces of evidence.
