I know this might sound strange but it's when the heat is reflected back into the cup the same way light is. Dark cups absorb the heat causing conduction. Hope this helps!

Particles in the part of the spoon that is in the hot cup of tea will use the heat/thermal energy of this as kinetic energy. These particles will then pass this kinetic energy (whilst still keeping some in themselves,) to the particles next to them.
