How do humans return carbon dioxide to the atmosphere?

First of all, could i point out that the plant will itself be part of the ecosystem. A plant returns it's carbon in many different ways. A plant is made up primarily of carbon, and so when it dies, and other organisms feed off of it, those organisms take in carbon and so it gets passed on that way. A plant's cells also respire, producing carbon dioxide gas (CO2) which can diffuse into the air surrounding the plant (or be used for photosynthesis). I'm sure there are many more ways though.

What about Avian flu suggests that humans are not the normal host for this pathogen?

Because this type of influenza has not easily passed from human to human and is only known to have happened that way quite rarely, the speculation could be entertained that humans are not the normal host. It passes very rapidly in flocks of birds.

What does car exhaust do to the Geospere?

Nothing harmful. Carbon dioxide, which comes from car exhaust is a naturally occurring substance emitted from the earth itself through volcanoes . It is a necessary substance for life on earth. Humans exhale carbon dioxide, and plants take it in for their survival, emitting oxygen in return. So I guess you could say you are feeding plant life when driving your car! Just don't you breath it in, especially in a confined area!

How does the amount of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere affect life?

Carbon absorbs reactant chemicals. In some cases of poisonings eating a bunch of charcoal is a temporary measure in containing the poison before the stomach can be pumped. Otherwise pure carbon is pretty nonreactive.
