If Atticus had been as prejudiced as many in the town he would not have defended Tom and the outcome would likely have been very different. Perhaps the town people would have lynched Tom and if not he would probably not have been well defended and the verdict would have been different.

Changing the point of view in a story can significantly alter the reader's perception of events, characters, and themes. Different perspectives can provide insight into different characters' motivations, emotions, and experiences, leading to a more nuanced understanding of the overall narrative. It can also create empathy for characters that were previously misunderstood or disliked, or reveal new layers of complexity in the story's conflicts.

Does the point of view shift?

A point of view shift is when the narrator of the story changes positions or becomes non-existent. Consider a shift from first to third person. Instead of saying "I" the narrator will say "He." Point of view is often consistent in novels, however, it is not very difficult or uncommon to change point of views. Sometimes the author will change the point of view when the character has a flash back. Sometimes the author will change the point of view in order to focus on an event that does not directly involve the main character(s). It can be a powerful literary tool.
