To measure the density of anything, one must divide its mass by its volume. Finding the mass of a human is as easy as stepping on a set of scales, but finding the volume is a bit more tricky. The simplest way is to completely immerse the person in a tank of water, and measure how much the water level rises. This will let you calculate how much water was displaced--that amount is the person's volume. For example, if a person weighs 75kg, and displaces 65 liters of water, they'd have a density of about 1.15 (75/65= ~1.15)

If you're using pounds and gallons instead, you'll need to divide the result by 8, since a gallon of water weighs 8 lbs. So if a 165 lb. person displaces 18 gallons of water, they'd have a density of about 1.145 (165/18=~9.16, 9.16/8=~1.145)

Can a pan balance measure the temperature that water freezes?

No a balance can not measure volume however it does measure mass. You can find the volume by using the balance to find the mass of what ever you want then if you know the density of the thing then you simply divide the mass by the density.

How many dry cups in 2 pounds?

We would have to know what you are converting. Cups is a measure of volume. Pounds is a measure of weight and mass. You can not directly convert the two. It could be one to a 100 if it is lead vs. feathers.

not necessarily. Liquid ounces is a measure of volume, not mass. "dry weight" as youre referring to it means mass.
