Yes. Date palms (Phoenix dactylifera L., P. reclinata and P. canariensis) were introduced in Kenya from Basra, Iraq and Bahrain in 1900s. They were planted in North Eastern (Wajir) and Coastal (Lamu) Provinces in 1920. In 1957 date palms from United States were planted in Malindi, Matuga, Galole, Tareta, Isiolo, Garissa and Moyale.
