It completely depends. The deepest part is at the Loreley Rocks (Felsen der Loreley). In comparison in the Rheingau it is no deeper than 1.9 meters. But, for that reason, at that point the river is 900 meters wide. Also, it's varying depending on the amount of water in the course of a year. There's flooding after a lot of rain, melt-off in the spring and low-water when it hasn't rained for a long time. So that ships can go up and down the Rhein relatively undisturbed, there are channels in the Rhein which assure there is a depth of at least 1.9 meters (as previously stated).
