How did Afghanistan get its money?

Afghanistan received the gross sum of their money through two primary means. The first was the oil within the country. They were able to extract and sell their oil to foreign markets. There second means of income was through war. The United States funded the Taliban in the 80's for a war against the Soviets, and a considerable amount of money flowed through the government.
