The Assyrians were brutal conquerors. Most of the men who defended any city that they laid siege to were tortured, flagellated, and subjected to numerous unspeakable horrors. Many women were raped, storehouses were pillaged, cemeteries were desecrated, and numerous families were deported from their homes and resettled hundreds of kilometers away in order to facilitate the removal of their customs and traditions.

Why did conquered people resent assyrian rule?

They used to be hated, because they conquered everyone. They made the conqured their slaves, and they persecuted the conquered people. Today, not alot of people hate Assyrians, expect for a group of Kurds on the internet, but the Assyrians where massacred during the Ottoman period, and Kurds attacked Assyrians villages, and today's Republic of Turkey. The only middle east country, that doesn't mind the Assyrians is Syria.
