How did Captain Cook communicate with England?

As long as Cook was travelling, he could not communicate with England. In his day, there were no telegrams, telephones or any other way to communicate long distances. Cook recorded his observations in his ship's log, and this was then handed on to the relevant authorities once he returned to England.
