We do not know. In 'The End' Sunny Baudelaire accuses Count Olaf of this crime and he replies "Is that what you think?" and Sunny replies "We know so" he then replies to that with "You know nothing"
Count Olaf wants the Baudelair's huge fortune.
Count Olaf is always trying to get to the Baudelaire's fortune. He dresses up in diguises and tries to be their friend, but they know who he is and what he's trying to do. In every book, they get sent to live with a friendly person that doesn't believe that he is Olaf. Some of them are his henchmen. In the end, the Baudelaires always out- smart him. I definitely recommend reading this series.
Violet, Klaus and Sunny Baudelaire find their home burnt to black and their parents dead. So they have to go to a stranger but a relative called Count Olaf. In their life, he tries to kill the orphans with no succes. Later on in the book, Count Olaf asks the orphans to be in his play called 'The Marvellous Marrige'. Violet says yes, and Klaus finds that the wedding in the play will be real! Count Olaf wants to marry Violet to get to the Baudelaire fortune, but his plans do not work. Now, Violet was right handed, and she signed the certificate with her left. Justice Strauss (neighbour of Count Olaf) had not clue, and she said "If the bride signs with her left hand, the wedding is not official". So once again, Count Olaf's plans were ruined. The orphans wanted to live with Justice Strauss, but Mr Poe (bank manager) said they had to liven with a relative. Count Olaf and his acting group got away in a car, and then Mr Poe takes the children to another relative, just who will that be? I know, it is Uncle Monty! Find out in The Reptile Room

"The Baudelaire Story" refers to the series of unfortunate events that befall the three siblings Violet, Klaus, and Sunny Baudelaire in Lemony Snicket's book series "A Series of Unfortunate Events." The siblings are orphaned and must navigate various challenges while being pursued by the villainous Count Olaf.
it's about, the baudelaire children, when they become ophans, and their parents are dead. They go to Count Olaf, their relative, and he becomes their gaurdian, but not for long. He is cruel, and mean, but trying the do evil things to get the baudelaire fortune that their parents left behind. So, Count Olaf tries to marry Violet, the oldest, and takes control of the money, but the children outsmarts him, and is moved to a different guardian. The story #2. I hope it helped!
Count Olaf is the villain to any of you who didn't know that......
If you are familiar with the books then you know that he takes on various disguise names in every book. He is best known as Al Funcoot which, unscrambled, spells Count Olaf.
The eye on his ankle is just a way of saying that it is count olaf and when he discuises himself as different characters, he covers it up with make up so they don't know it is actually him. It is just a way that violet remembers it is him and not another character. Im sorry but the above statment is incorrect. The tattoo of an eye on Count Olaf says that he is part of V.F.D. (volunteer fire department). The group that both Baudelaire parents were involved in along with the snicket family. The group split into the "good" and the "bad" which includes Count Olaf.
We don't know Lemony Snicket never told us.
