Diane Fossey was murdered by Protais Zigiranyirazo. He was the former Governor of Ruhengeri province in Rwanda. He killed Diane because she found out that he was the leader of the poaching and endangered species smuggling ring and she was going to turn them in. So that's why he killed her.
