Milam took him to a barn, hit him multiple times with the end of a gun, gouged out one of his eyes, before shooting him through the head. The bullet caught him in the ear. They disposed his body in the Tallahatchie River by tying a 70 pound cotton gin fan to his neck with barbed wire.
Bryant and Milam were tried and acquitted because of a "lack of evidence". A year later, the murderers confessed to killing Till and published a description of how they killed Emmett Till in Look Magazine protected from punishment because of the double jeopardy part of our Constitution.
