The idea that the German or so called Aryan race are a "master race" that needed to defend its "pure blood" from groups Hitler labeled "racial degenerates", these include Jews, slavs and others. Hitler believed the Germans needed Lebensraum (living space). This space could be found on the western border of Germany.
Perhaps he didn't take all aspects of Nazi race theory seriously.
