Jamestown almost didn't survive. After 6 months there only 34 of the 106 men left alive and they were not in good shape. The thing that saved them was tobacco. John Rolfe brought the seed to the colony and it grew everywhere before they were done. It was used as money at one point. Soon, other ships arrived with more people and the colony grew. With them came new plants, insects, and the area became a copy of the English countryside. This did bring more problems to the Native Americans in the area. The animals and insects changed the native environment to the point that the Native Americans had a hard time maintaining their life style. It was actually a form of bioterrorism .
