Scout and Jem noticed they were being followed on their way home from the Halloween pageant when they heard footsteps behind them on the deserted street and quickened their pace. They realized that the figure following them was not a normal presence in the neighborhood as it moved silently and awkwardly, heightening their unease. Jem's instincts told him that something was off, prompting them to become increasingly vigilant and eventually confirm their suspicions by observing the figure's peculiar movements.

Jem and Scout wait before starting home after the pageant because Scout is wearing a cumbersome ham costume, which limits her mobility. Jem wants to allow the crowd to disperse before they leave to avoid being recognized and followed by Bob Ewell.
Bob Ewell followed Scout and Jem home after the pageant. He was seeking revenge for Atticus making him look bad during the trial.

Bob Ewell followed Scout and Jem from the school. Jem heard him in the woods behind them but could see no one. He urged Scout to hurry--and be quiet! When Mr. Ewell attacked, he wanted Jem out of the way so he could hurt Scout. She kept getting tipped over as they fought. She couldn't see much through her costume.
Boo Radley.
They were being followed and later attacked by Mr. Bob Ewell, The father of Mayella Ewell. Mr. Ewell intended to kill Jem and Scout but got killed himself. Jem and Scout were rescued by Boo Radley, the mysterious neighbour who never came out.
Bob Ewell attacked Jem and Scout after the pageant to get back at Atticus for being so effective for Tom Robinson in Court.
Scout identifies the body as Jem because she recognizes his pants and shoes, the same ones he was wearing earlier that night. Additionally, Scout is able to confirm his identity by feeling his hair and the contours of his face.
Jem is in the sixth grade and Scout is in the first grade at the beginning of the novel "To Kill a Mockingbird" by Harper Lee.
Jem calls Scout, Scout... Scout is the nickname. Scout's real name is Jean Louise Finch
Jem decides to sneak out with Scout and Dill to find Atticus. Jem is Scout's brother in To Kill A Mockingbird.
